**Please see the attached documents for a full job overview, and examples.** TouringPlans.com is a subscription-based website that helps people save time and money at theme park resorts such as Walt Disney World. We provide a unique set of tools to do that, as well as detailed content on each resort’s hotels, parks, attractions, restaurants, and ticket options. We’re updating our website UX and UI to a new design, with a new navigation scheme. We’re looking for Rails developers with 2-4 years of experience, and strong UI skills, to help implement that design and nav. We have the following goals for this project, ranked from most important: Increase subscription revenue Make the site mobile-friendly Make the site easier to use for people not familiar with these destinations Implement a new, modern-looking UI Promote our travel agency’s services, for people who find all of this too confusing These UX goals required us to create a new navigation scheme for the site. We’ve already done extensive testing, including card sorting and tree testing. That new nav scheme is ready to implement. Likewise, we’ve been working with a talented designer and artist. We have ready for implementation the first set of page templates using those new designs. This is where you come in. The Task Your task will be to implement these new designs and nav on our existing platform. You’ll be working with: -Our developers - for coaching on our site infrastructure, implementation best practices, and A/B testing -Our designer and artist - for questions around the new UI/UX and those assets -The broader team of developers, data scientists, and researchers - for clarifying questions around efficacy, intent, and content (i.e., “I know what this says, but what do you mean?” and “What’s the best way to test these two verbiage options?”) For example, Disney World has a paid ride reservation system called “Genie+”, with a set of rules that might not be intuitive, especially to people who’ve never thought that you can make reservations to ride a ride. We’ve made an attempt to explain this as clearly as possible. You might look at that explanation and say “This part isn’t clear to me, can we test some alternatives?” Likewise, the nav scheme tries to explain things like “Hey, Genie+ is a ride reservation system that might be useful to you, but it costs money and has its own set of pros and cons.” Obviously, we can’t say all that on an iPhone screen. And while we’ve researched and tested this specific thing extensively, we won’t know until it’s in production whether it actually works. As we implement this first set of pages and new nav scheme, we’ll ask you to run A/B tests using Google Optimize to verify that these new things meet the goals above. If they don’t we’ll temporarily revert to the old design while our UI team comes up with alternatives. Effort, Phased Implementation, and Time Effort Our site consists of several hundred pages, implemented through approximately 100 high-level page templates in Rails. For example: All pages for our theme park ride details are implemented using the same template All of our pages that cover restaurant details use the same template And all of our hotel pages use the same template Some of our site’s pages host only static content, where the only user input might be to click on a section to expand it. Other pages function like single-page apps, with user input, server-side processing, and real-time responses. We do not envision that you will need to implement or update any part of our databases or infrastructure - we really think the vast majority of this work is on the UI. To reduce the calendar time needed to complete this project, we expect to hire at least 2 developers. Each developer will be assigned a separate set of pages to implement in each phase. In this scenario, developers must collaborate to embrace common approaches, nomenclature, UI components, etc. For example, developers must not use different datepickers or invent competing CSS classes that serve the same purposes. Phases We’ve structured this effort into phases, starting with our most-visited pages: Phase 1 (these designs are complete and ready to implement): -Home page (a page with no user input or special database processing) -Walt Disney World crowd calendar page (a page with minimal user input and lots of data) -Walt Disney World crowd calendar “tracking” page (minimal use input, lots of data) -Walt Disney World landing page (no user input, minimal data) -Hotels template (no user input, lots of text and tabular data) -The site’s “subscribe now” pages (approximately 5) -A new navigation scheme for these pages -A “generic” page template with that navigation scheme Phase 2 (these designs are complete and ready to implement): -Individual Theme Park Landing Page -Attraction Detail page -Hotel Listing Page -Least Expensive Ticket Calculator page -Genie+ page -Dining reservation finder page
