Position Summary:

TD2 is committed to enhancing overall scientific quality, data integrity and clinical trial performance in collaboration with leadership and industry partners. This position plays a key role in developing, constructing, testing, and maintaining data architecture across the organization, while collecting, managing, and converting raw data into useful information for translational and clinical oncology research. This position reports into Data Management.


Essential Functions:


• Designs, builds, scales, and maintains data pipelines and storage across business units to enable data accessibility.

• Ensures optimized data modeling to eliminate redundancy, reduce storage requirements, and enable efficient data retrieval.

• Constructs data architecture in alignment with business requirements.

• Integrates datasets retrieved from external data sources and identifies opportunities for automation in data ingestion and extraction.

• Monitors and tests data architecture performance to reduce errors and increase productivity.

• Identifies and implements ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.

• Defines data processing standards to ensure secure management of data and loss protection.

• Evaluates data sources to determine optimized implementation of ETL/ELT processes.

• Develops automation scripts to streamline repetitive processes.

• Works independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment with Department Heads, Lead Data Managers, Programmers, Sponsors, and other key stakeholders to identify areas for improved performance on specific research outcomes or global business initiatives.

• Adheres to timelines for developing and maintaining accessible data for use across the organization.

• Performs quality assurance activities, including validation, development and review of software code and macros.

• Develops and executes SQL queries, extracts data in support of analyses, and performs reporting tasks from clinical information systems.

• Demonstrates skill in developing qualitative and quantitative measurements to summarize results of data files and data structure to solve related problems and inconsistencies such as missing data or incorrect data values.

• Provides mentorship and training to the Associate Data Engineer.

• Develops, reviews and revises department-controlled documents related to data pipelines, storage, and security.

• Assists with development and revisions of TD2 controlled documents related to data engineering.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

• This position requires at least a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology or related field.

• Minimum 4 years of experience in the data engineering field in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical setting.

• Experience in Phase 1 and 2 oncology research trials is preferred.


Required Specialized/Technical Skills:

• Experience designing, maintaining, and scaling data architecture

• Experience with one or more programming languages (Python, SQL, R)

• Experience with one or more cloud data warehouses, including AWS or Google Cloud

• Experience with data mining and modeling

• Understanding of Phase 1 and 2 oncology clinical trials with strong knowledge of the clinical drug development process

• Familiar with all aspects of clinical trial research, including FDA, GCP/ICH guidelines, CDISC/CDASH, SDTM standards, MedDRA, WHODrug and 21 CFR part 11

• Trained in Good Clinical Practices (GCP)

• Demonstrated skill with establishing and documenting standard processes by which project tracking data is collected, updated, and reported to the project team

• Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills

• Strong ability to perform independently and in a collaborative capacity

• Client focused approach to work

• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.

• Displays strong leadership and mentorship skills

• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

• Possesses strategic thinking, contingency planning, problem-solving and dispute resolution skills

• Possesses a strong understanding of statistical/machine learning principles, and prior experience with AI/machine learning preferred

• Ability to quickly find common ground and solve problems

• Excellent planning and organizational skills
