Who is Jetpack Workflow?
Jetpack Workflow is the leading accounting workflow software that helps accountants, bookkeepers, and firm owners. Our platform helps firms standardize, track, and automate their processes, allowing them to complete more work and prevent tasks from falling through the cracks.
What's the opportunity?
You'll join our small but mighty Product Engineering team at Jetpack Workflow as our sole Product Designer, reporting to our Head of Engineering. Working hand in hand with product management, engineering, and departments across the company, you'll help us execute our vision of building and nurturing empowered, cross-functional product teams that are fearless, high-performing, and driven by continuous discovery and human-centered design practices.
What will I be doing?
- Collaborate Closely: Work alongside our CEO and Head of Product to build out our backlog, explore customer pain points, and explore potential solutions. Foster strong collaboration between product managers, designers, and engineers to ensure alignment and shared understanding.
- Support Product Marketing: Collaborate with the Head of Marketing to align design and marketing strategies.
- End-to-End Design: Take concepts through their entire life-cycle: research → exploration → prototype → production. Ensuring the app's overall layout, patterns, and structure work holistically.
- User-Centric Approach: Conduct user research and testing interviews to better understand the humans using our product and how best to design for them. Embrace continuous discovery practices driven by a deep understanding of customer needs and validated learning.
- High-Quality Experiences: Create high-quality, delightful experiences while collaborating with your team's product manager and engineers.
- Design System Collaboration: Work with the development team on our design system and style guide.
- Review and Iterate: Review new features in development to ensure that the team is delivering the solutions you have designed and that everything is ready for our users.
- Inclusivity and Accessibility: Integrate accessibility considerations and guidelines into the entire product development process, ensuring inclusive design from the outset.
Requirements
What skills and experience do I need?
Required
- Product Design Expertise: Experience designing digital products and systems, not just websites. Proven track record of shipping products that solve real problems and are actively used.
- Tool Proficiency: High proficiency in Figma or other modern design and collaboration tools.
- End-to-end Process Understanding: Deep understanding of the end-to-end design process, from brainstorming to prototyping and visual design to post-launch research and iteration.
- Communication: Strong communication skills.
- Collaboration and Learning: Highly collaborative and love learning from others. Experience working asynchronously as part of a fully remote, distributed team.
- Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Pride and Improvement: Pride in your work and constantly drive for improvement.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to break down complex problems into digestible parts while considering the entire system.
- Agility: Comfortable shipping fast and iterating quickly when possible, while knowing when to take more time to find the right solution.
- Mobile-First Design: Experience designing for mobile-first applications and responsive design. This includes a strong understanding of mobile design principles, user behaviors on mobile devices, and the constraints and opportunities of designing for smaller screens.
- Location and Hours: This is a remote full-time position, however we are not fully asynchronous. You must be willing and able to commit to core working hours between 10 AM and 2 PM EST Monday through Friday. You must be located and authorized to work in the US. We do not sponsor visas.
- Travel: Despite our remote setup, we value the benefits of in-person collaboration. You should be open to occasional travel (up to 4 times per year), as we believe that sometimes the best tool for the job is to spend time together in person.
Nice to have
- Startups: Previous experience working in a startup
- Domain knowledge: Experience with products in similar domains like accounting, practice management, or project management
- Secret coder: You have a technical understanding of the web frameworks. You don't have to know how to code, but we think it helps to know some of the medium's constraints.
