We’re now looking for a Senior Developer to join our team and take ownership of the technical aspects of our WordPress plugins’ development.
The Senior Developer Role
As a Senior Developer at RebelCode, you’ll play a pivotal role in steering our flagship WordPress plugins towards new heights. These plugins aren’t just tools; they are the heart of our company’s product line, and are making a significant impact in their markets.
Here’s a quick introduction to the plugins themselves:
Aggregator is the original RSS importer plugin for WordPress with over 50k active installations and thousands of paying customers. It has been rebuilt from the ground up over the past 18 months and is due to be
relaunched in the coming weeks.
Spotlight is a top-notch Instagram feed plugin for WordPress that has grown to over 50k active installations in just 3 years. It is now a leading solution in its market that is recommended by the biggest names in the WordPress ecosystem.
You will be the driving force behind these plugins’ ongoing development, refinement, and expansion, ensuring they continue to stand out in a competitive market.
Your Day-to-Day
Your day-to-day will involve a mix of hands-on coding and strategic planning. This means diving into the codebase to innovate and troubleshoot, as well as stepping back to assess and define the broader technical roadmap.
You will work closely with our Product Manager, Marketing Manager, and Support Specialist to constantly improve and build upon the existing products. Your expertise will guide decisions on all technical aspects to ensure we deliver a top-notch user experience.
Your Responsibilities
As the Senior Developer on our team, you will:
- Be the technical expert within the team.
- Write and review code for our products.
- Design and implement complex features and systems.
- Solve any and all technical problems within the products.
- Ensure code quality through code reviews and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with new technologies and integrate them when appropriate.
- Provides mentorship and technical guidance to new junior developers in the future.
Other areas such as product management, UI/UX design, and team coordination are the responsibility of the other respective members of the team.

Your Skillset and Experience
The ideal candidate for this Senior Developer role at RebelCode is an expert in WordPress plugin development, with a strong foundation in both frontend and backend technologies.
Your primary focus will be on creating high-quality, scalable, and maintainable plugins that enhance the WordPress ecosystem. Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Advanced WordPress Development: Extensive experience in developing complex WordPress plugins. You should be comfortable working with the WordPress core, hooks, and APIs.
- PHP Proficiency: Deep knowledge of PHP, including object-oriented programming and familiarity with PHP frameworks. You write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.
- JavaScript Expertise: Strong skills in JavaScript, including experience with frameworks like React.
- API Integration: Experience with RESTful APIs and third-party integrations. You can consume and create APIs, ensuring seamless communication between different services.
- Testing and Debugging: Proficient in writing unit tests and using debugging tools. Ensuring the reliability and stability of your code through comprehensive testing practices.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to tackle complex technical challenges. You are a critical thinker who can identify and resolve issues efficiently.

Benefits and Remuneration
We believe in transparency, which is why we’re sharing the package being offered for the Senior Developer role upfront. The selected candidate will receive the following remuneration and perks:
- $45,000 to $55,000 annual remuneration
- 4 weeks of paid leave annually
- The freedom to work remotely from your home or anywhere around the world
- A flexible work schedule with a minimum 4-hour daily overlap with the product team
- Continued learning through books, courses, and more, supported by the company
- Expenses paid attendance to conferences and WordCamps
- Occasional company meet-ups and retreats to strengthen the team bond
- Work with a diverse group of people from various countries and cultures
Note: As a Contractor, you will be responsible for paying taxes in your country of residence. The remuneration package offered will depend on your level of experience.

Full disclosure: For the first few months, you will be the sole plugin developer at RebelCode, receiving a handover from our current CTO as we rebuild our technical team. The goal is to then bring in additional developers to work alongside you as ramp up the plugin’s development.
