Description

The Audiobooks Mission is a team in the Product & Technology organization focused on the ecosystem and strategies of Audiobooks on Spotify. We work across both the creator and consumer audiobooks ecosystems, in order to get the best possible product to market with the best possible content.

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team focusing on ongoing audiobook adoption and the new top-up functionality to support Audiobooks in Premium. As we continue Audiobook Direct Sales and launch Audiobooks in Premium, this team will focus on the increased adoption of both across multiple markets. This will need to be balanced with the demands of Audiobooks in Premium; specifically the creation of a new top-ups functionality that will give users even greater access to Audiobook content. All of this will require engagement across missions with Product and Engineering counterparts to ensure smooth expansion and adaptability. This is a brand-new space for Spotify, and there is significant complexity (both technical and organizational) to untangle and help the team grow.

We’ve done a lot already, and we have no plans of slowing down. Come help us build the future of audio!

What you'll do

  • Work directly with other engineering leaders across the company to define key aspects of the architecture of Spotify's audiobooks strategy

  • Actively participate in and lead all phases of development from design to post-deployment issue resolution

  • Work closely with senior leaders across tech, product, and design to develop a software roadmap for future features and improvements

  • Collaborate regularly with other team members at all stages of product development and launch

  • Work with and mentor your engineering team in collaborative, lead-by-example fashion, encouraging career and personal growth

  • Ensure your team meets timelines and launch dates through an effective planning process

  • Focus on high quality, high-velocity feature delivery, maintaining the balance between maximising business impact and minimising technical debt

  • Actively participate in the hiring process as both an interviewer and decision maker

Who you are

  • You thrive working within a fast-paced, high-growth, startup-type environment

  • You have a sense of humour, have fun on the job, and embody Spotify's "playful" value

  • You have 5+ years of software engineering experience, and 2+ years leading engineering teams

  • You get excited about challenging software design problems, and have a love of clean code

  • You have a good foundation in software architecture, performance and optimization, data structures, and design patterns

  • You have experience leading teams building ITGC-compliant systems and data pipelines, and managing software with financial responsibilities

  • You have excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with team members across all functions of the company

  • You have a persistent/resolved work ethic and a willingness to try anything and everything

  • You love audiobooks or audio in general!

Where you'll be

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!

  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location and is within working hours: https://lifeatspotify.com/locations

  • Working hours? We operate within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration and ask that all be located in that time zone.
