The VP, Capital Markets role

Petal is looking for a VP of Capital Markets to lead our Capital Markets function to handle the tremendous growth in both our cardmembers and receivables. Capital Markets is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy for funding our loans - as well providing key inputs to Petal’s broader product development and strategy. The VP will play a key role in developing and executing Petal’s Capital Markets strategy. 


The ideal candidate possesses strong technical skills, is an excellent written and verbal communicator, has prior capital markets and/or structured finance experience, has a sharp eye for details, and is always excited to learn. This role will report into Petal’s Chief Financial Officer. 


Key responsibilities

  • End to end ownership of debt financing for Petal
  • Responsible for running and negotiating corporate debt and warehouse deals
  • Interface directly with institutional investors on a daily basis, and build effective and lasting working relationships
  • Manage debt capital fundraising efforts, including corporate debt, warehouse and securitizations
  • Craft debt capital marketing documents and materials
  • Negotiate term sheets and definitive transaction documents with counterparties
  • Oversee Capital Markets team, including partnerships, analysis, and reporting activities
  • Contribute to strategic planning with the Petal leadership team


Characteristics of a successful candidate

  • Ability to lead a capital markets function, managing a team while coordinating with external financing partners - maintaining trust and confidence in the process
  • Exceptional capital market experience, with an ability to work quickly with little oversight
  • Significant attention to detail, both in a quantitative and qualitative sense
  • Strong self-management, drive, and organizational skills, and an insatiable curiosity to learn


Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years structured credit experience at an ABS issuer (including online lending platforms), investment bank (FIG, or ABS banking or trading) or asset manager
  • Exposure to ABS financing transactions, as well as complex balance sheet modeling and forecasting
  • Direct exposure to multiple collateral types, including credit cards and other asset classesInvestment banking background, with buy-side or operating experience being a plus
