Over 100,000 businesses and millions of people log in to 1Password to unlock smart, simple access to everything they care about. Our vision is to create a safer, simpler digital future for everyone, and our culture values simplicity, honesty and a human-centric approach to solving problems. Come help us unlock peace of mind so everyone can stay safer online.

We are looking for a Build Engineer to join our growing Build and Release team to deliver software into people’s hands in a way that improves developer velocity and product quality.

We are looking for an individual to join us, on the team that owns our continuous integration, build and deployment systems. With dozens of automated CI jobs executing on every merge request, running on autoscaling AWS instances for Linux and Windows, a fleet of colocated macOS machines, simulated environments for Android and iOS, and virtualized environments for our browser extension, this isn’t some cookie cutter setup we’re running here.

We also have new challenges coming down the road like launching our new iOS and Android apps, building and testing on more platforms like ARM. If you’re looking for a role where you’ll get to work and play with the latest technologies across the board, then we have the perfect playground for you.

Your scripting skills will be an absolute requirement as you work closely with our platform teams to maintain and extend automated build and testing environments for macOS, iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, and browser extensions. Your contributions will be felt throughout the company, helping us move faster, together. Lastly, you will be on the team responsible for building, signing, and deploying the release versions of 1Password that we send out to millions of people.

This is a Remote opportunity within Canada and the US.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience with CI systems, including designing, operating, and maintaining complex build and release pipelines

  • Proficiency in Python, Powershell, Bash, or comparable scripting languages

  • Experience with maintaining and deploying updated toolchains across a variety CI pipelines

  • Proven knowledge of Make or similar build automation tooling

  • Understanding of different platforms’ (e.g. macOS, Linux, and Windows) packaging scheme

  • Understanding of iOS and Android packaging and App Store/Play Store deployment

  • Understanding of code signing and validation

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with GitLab and GitLab Runners

  • Proficiency in Rust and/or TypeScript

  • Experience working with quality assurance teams to ensure they have access to the builds they need to complete their testing

What you can expect:

  • Build and maintain CI/CD tools to help engineers move faster, QA teams drive quality, and deliver software to millions of people.

  • Instrument and evaluate our CI/CD systems to identify bottlenecks, flaky pipelines, and other issues then work to improve these systems

  • Coordinate with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams to ensure smooth releases

  • Develop capabilities to the health (performance, reliability, functional correctness) of our products to make informed release decisions

  • Deliver automation to increase velocity of releases

  • Collaborate with an awesome team of build engineers to release product that millions of people entrust with their most important information

Even if you don't tick all those boxes, we'd like to hear from you.

The most important thing you can bring to this job is the drive to dive in, get the work done, and fix root causes instead of treating symptoms. We believe in continuous learning and support professional development on the job with a budget to back it up. If you bring a desire to do the right thing for our customers, a sense of ownership over the product you work on, and a focus on shipping quality code, we want to hear from you.
