Job Description
California Closets Inc. is looking for a seasoned Director of Internal Communications who is experienced in communicating strategic plans, advising leaders on communication standards, and creating and managing a vibrant company community portal. This individual must embody our Credo and Brand of Belonging, be a self-starter, and can build networks, influence teams and cascade communication expertise across the organization. The successful candidate must have prior experience working with internal corporate teams and be comfortable leading the build and deployment of our communications strategy and intranet portal.

Core Responsibilities:
Partner with senior leaders, to understand strategic priorities and create/execute compelling communications that effectively deliver the message and affirm our core values and Credo
Develop internal communication standards and protocols, to improve productivity and team member engagement
Understand the needs of our unique stakeholder communities of Designers, Installers, Warehouse and Office team members and tailor messages as appropriate
Provide advice, counsel, thought leadership, coaching and tactical support to the Senior Leadership Team members on all aspects of internal communications
Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team, Legal, Human Resources and other functions on communications plans, materials, presentations, speeches, scripts, talking points and other supporting communications collateral
Establish the strategy, design, and implementation plan for the Company’s first Intranet Communications Portal. This site will be accessed by direct team members as well as franchisees
Act as the primary California Closets spokesperson on all First Service Corporation (parent Co) Social Purpose initiatives
Provide leadership for California Closets’ Social Purpose initiatives – lead the committee and facilitate action planning
Co-lead and champion the DEIB council and related internal DEIB communications including DEIB calendar to commemorate key dates and celebrations
Assure that all communication plans and activities align with and support company priorities and business plans
Lead and partner on other corporate communications and community initiatives as requested.
Tactile Responsibilities:
Editor in Chief (Intranet)
Help build and create the intranet portal as the front door where everyone at California Closets Inc. starts their day and interacts to make the community a vibrant place to stay connected and come together.
Maintain the intranet portal and develop/drive active and engaging content
Track and report usage analytics and apply key learnings to improve future comms, content, and engagement
Partner with the HR team and other functions/operations teams to align portal content and link to other sites
Create a content roadmap built in line with the company values, Credo and Brand of Belonging.
Create/publish content that is relevant to our various communities (install, design, warehouse, office team members
Identify and collaborate with local communication experts at each site
Communication Standards and Support
Develop and maintain internal communication standards and protocols
Introduce new tools and processes to reduce email
Improve productivity through simple guidelines for users to search and find appropriate content
Manage corporate brand – guidelines, global adherence, websites, etc. in partnership with Brand Marketing and PR
Strategic Change Initiatives
Partner with SCI program leaders to create communications plans for the life of the program
Help create strategic change communications and templates for each SCI
Tailor messaging for SCIs to various audience communities
Social Purpose and DEIB
Partner with internal leaders as well as our parent company, First Service Corporation, to communicate internally on corporate social responsibility and charitable giving initiatives
Work closely with the team members on internal communications, including coordination and preparation of diversity, equity and inclusion materials, creative content and stories highlighting all locations, roles, and team members at California Closets Inc.
Create and maintain the DEIB calendar with significant dates and commemorations that are meaningful for our communities
Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or commensurate position-related experience
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in successively challenging and progressive communications roles
Demonstrated successful development and launch of an internal communications portal
Experience working independently with senior executives and advising on communications strategies and messaging
Self-driven, with proven ability to generate ideas, timelines and materials, and anticipate needs
Keen ability to transform high level concepts and topics and drill down to key messages/takeaways
A track record of success and demonstrated understanding of the strategic importance of contemporary communications processes
Experience in both corporate headquarters with remote, dispersed operations/manufacturing work environments desired
Superior verbal and written communication skills, and proven ability to effectively tailor messages to diverse internal and external audiences
Experience with diversity, equity and inclusion content and practices
Confidence and ability to effectively lead, collaborate, and execute multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, often ambiguous and ever-changing environment
Strong sense of urgency, with the ability to manage competing and frequent changing demands, while effectively managing time to meet deadlines
Ability to effectively utilize MS Office software applications
