About the role:

At Cirium, we want our products to help aircraft do more for humankind. We are the industry leader in aviation analytics - data that helps understand the past, inform the present, and predict the future of everything related to the tens of thousands of aircraft flying around the globe. At Cirium, we have over 300 terabytes of aviation data from more than 2,000 data sources. We must constantly innovate to drive new ways of using this massive & valuable data set to drive transformative behaviors across the industry.

In this embedded role you'll help lead a significant component of the UX and Product Design efforts for our key UI Products. You'll collaborate with product managers, customers, data analysts, engineers, and others to develop hypotheses and drive ideation, and you'll partner with Cirium's UX leadership and central design resources to deliver higher fidelity prototypes and integrate your work with our rapidly growing global design system. This is also an excellent opportunity for someone experienced with data visualization techniques to help our customers understand highly complex data interactions faster and more confidently relative to traditional tabular data presentation formats.

You'll do this based on research, analysis, and critical thinking of our existing & potential customers & products. You will partner with the product, data, and tech teams to solve customer problems and increase revenue through our best-in-class Research, Development, and Discovery process. You will be responsible for working with software engineering, design, and other cross functional teams to design & build the best decision support tools for aviation analytics.

This is a senior design role, and you will be a first-class communicator able to communicate complex design approaches to our personnel, our customers, and senior-level stakeholders within Cirium.

About You:

  • This is not your first senior design role. You have years of experience in various UX roles and in managing UX projects in a large enterprise or agency environment. You are comfortable thinking on your feet in both an R&D and delivery setting.
  • You have helped to drive new products to launch. You are knowledgeable about new emerging technologies and can understand those of our competitors. You are knowledgeable about technology and can understand, negotiate, and mitigate the trade-offs that can happen during product delivery.
  • You have solved complex problems . You are skilled in breaking down large complex issues into simpler elements that can be effectively addressed. You are energized by complex issues and problems that require solutions . You can translate innovative ideas into an appropriate business or investment case, and you've demonstrated a track record of generating, getting approval for, and implementing those ideas.
  • You understand design opportunities. You very deeply understand the needs & trends and can speak directly to customers to understand their problems and offer thought leadership. You can speak as the voice of the customer both internally and externally. You are skillful at developing messaging, positioning, and themes that deliver a clear and compelling design narrative to a variety of stakeholders.
  • You are a skilled communicator . We are a diverse, global team and you need strong verbal and written communication to convey your vision, roadmap, and progress. You know the right tool for the job whether it's PowerPoint for executives or a detailed Figma prototype or a whiteboard to illustrate ideas. You communicate key performance indicators that measure design success. You inspire designers, product managers, engineers, and marketers alike.

Responsibilities :

  • This principal-level role is the key resource for our business and emphasizes discovery, prioritization, ideation, and the early stages of prototyping with less emphasis on producing high-fidelity prototypes, although you'll be working closely with the team managing our design system to ensure our product UI reflects best-in-class current and emerging standards
  • Collaborate with and inspire product managers, engineers, executives, sales personnel, and marketers to explore requirements and align them to UX Strategy
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Data, and other disciplines to develop deep insight into our business and customers
  • Ensure customer personas, journeys, experience outcomes, and key scenarios are detailed, prioritized, and understood throughout the organization
  • Synthesize insights coming from a wide spectrum of sources into testable hypotheses targeting the problems that are most valuable to our customers
  • Lead ideation in the delivery of low-, mid- and high-fidelity flows and screens, partnering with central UX design resources as required for production support
  • Connect user needs to business objectives and use relevant KPIs, metrics, and analysis tools so we can measure how focusing on the former achieves the latter
  • Ensure UX deliverables are fully integrated into master schedules and aligned with team sprints
  • Serve as the voice of the customer in industry events
  • Validates and influences product strategy based on deep knowledge of customers, competitors, and market trends
  • Promote UX best practices across the technology and product organization
  • Define the framework for testing designs with users and ensures other disciplines are engaged in the process
  • Presents findings of data-driven analysis and testing to guide the organization

Qualifications and Education:

  • Degree in a UX related field or equivalent experience; a minimum of 7 years in a core UX role with increasing responsibility (UX Designer, UX Researcher, UX Strategist, etc.) is required and B2B experience strongly preferred
  • Comfort with (and passion for!) technical products that dive deep into complex, heterogeneous data sources: we make valuable order out of data chaos
  • Passion to develop deep customer knowledge and subject matter expertise for your area of our business
  • Experience working with remote and distributed teams: Cirium is an international company, and we have teams across the globe
  • Portfolio samples that show deep UX thinking and sophisticated problem solving
  • Comfort leading discovery in an R&D environment, and for both v1 and existing products, including observation and interviews with customers, facilitating design workshops internally and with our customers, and interpreting quantitative research
  • Capable of producing detailed and comprehensive heuristic evaluations and recommendations
  • Familiarity with application analytics, A/B testing, and key metrics
  • An online portfolio providing insight into your process and reflecting the scope of your contributions to product development
  • Experience embedding with engineering & product squads and exceptional ability to foster cross-team collaborative relationships
